A COMBINED CAPACITANCE-ELECTRODYNAMIC TRANSDUCER FOR OIL PIPEUNE FLOW VELOCITY MEASUREMENT

Cross correlation techniques are becoming more widely used for solid or liquid flow velocity measurement This paper describes a combined capacitance-electrodynamic transducer which is used in a cross correlation system for oil pipeline flow velocity measurement. The two types of transducers employ a common set of measurement electrodes. The capacitance transducer is sensitive to void fluctuations with a variable sensitivity up to 8000 V/pF and the electrodynamic transducer is sensitive to the electric charge fluctuations arising from turbulent flows. Experimental results show that the electrodynamic transducer is suitable for measuring turbulent flows and the capacitance transducer for less turbulent flows.
